1500 Guy here

by Mike (Moline IL)
For white I have been playing the Larson for a year or so. I go for a reversed Sicilian game against an e5 game by black, and a reversed dutch against d5. I think the Larson is a very flexible opening, and good for the intermediate and expert level.

I also have a secret weapon opening, the Botvinnik. I also play d4, I have two different queen pawn games, one is more conservative and the other is more aggressive. The passive one is like the Colle, and my other one is the Queens gambit set up.

As black I play the Sicilian all the time against e4. The KID, Dutch, Slav, and recently the Nimzo Indian against d4.

After reading on your site I’m concerned that I’m trying to do too much. I thought a repertoire is having multiple openings to play. So I tried to learn Five or so for each side. And I try to play similar structures for both sides.

I have to say however that I have been stuck at the 1500 – 1600 level for a long time. I would love to be able to break into the 1800 plus level. I’ve been playing for about twenty years and I’m 41 years old.
