Exchanging Chess Pieces

When an opponent puts a piece in a position where it can be captured, don't always take because it could result in a checkmate.
I know this from a game I played, where I sacrificed a rook for nothing, because the computer was playing at grandmaster level. (expert)
I let the computer take my rook and in about 3 moves later I won with dual wielding bishops!
