Peter Leko - Super Chess Grandmaster

Peter Leko is born September 8, 1979 in Subotica/Yugoslavia. He is an Hungarian chess player and a Super Chess Grandmaster. Peter learned chess at the age of 7 from his father. Soon he showed his outstanding talents.

From 1989 onwards he received daily training from Tibor Károlyi. 1991 he became world champion in Mamaia in the category U12 and 1992 he became European champion in the category U14 and achieved the title International Master.

1993 he trained with grandmaster András Adorján and developed his opening repertoire. A speciality of Peter is the Sweschnikow-Variation of the Sicilian defense.

In 1994 he achieved the title of an International Chess Grandmaster, only 14 years old. At this time he was the youngest grandmaster ever in the history of chess to achieve the title. Soon after he became worldchampion in category U16 in Szeged.

In the FIDE rating list (December 2008) he has an Elo rating of 2747 and is ranked number nine in the world.
