You will be amazed of the variety of wooden chess sets that are offered on this page.
“I saw the joy, inspiration, and connection it gave people in all walks of life as they enjoyed chess in their own way.
Disabled people and those in hospital beds had a way to pass the time or surprise a visiting friend by with their chess game.
Veterans told me their stories. One dear friend, a 90 year old lieutenant carried his miniature pocket set with him everywhere. It helped him and his buddies stay sane in the worst of times.
I feel honored to be a part of so many hurting, healing, and hearty lives.” –

Different Types of Wooden Chess Sets
I searched the internet for you to find all sorts of chess sets for different occasions. People have different tastes, some are looking for theme chess sets, others are die-hard chess players and want a good tournament set. And some are looking for a gift idea.
Chess Piece & Chessboard Sizing in Tournaments
The size of the squares are 2.25 inches. The king is 3.75 inches and has a 1.75 inch base. The majority of tournament players use plastic chess pieces and roll-up vinyl.
Basically the chess pieces should not sit too crowded on the chess board, but sit comfortable. They also should not be too isolated on the squares. This happens when the pieces are too small if compared to the board.
Height, Weight, Proportions according to FIDE (World Chess Federation)
The size of the pieces should be proportionate to their height and form; other elements such as stability, aesthetic considerations etc., may also be taken into account. The weight of the pieces should be suitable for comfortable moving and stability.
Recommended height of the pieces is as follows:
King – 9.5 cm, Queen – 8.5 cm, Bishop – 7 cm, Knight – 6 cm, Rook – 5.5 cm and Pawn – 5 cm.
The diameter of the piece’s base should measure 40-50% of its height. These dimensions may differ up to 10% from the above recommendation, but the order (e.g. King is higher than Queen etc.) must be kept.
Form, Style of Pieces
Recommended for use in FIDE competitions are pieces of Staunton style. The pieces should be shaped so as to be clearly distinguishable from one another. In particular the top of the King should distinctly differ from that of the Queen.
