August 18, 2019 IVORY CHESS GAME - Japan
This was my father’s chess game. He passed away 22 years ago at which time, I inherited the board. It has been sitting on one of my bookshelves during this time. I do believe this was originally purchased by his brother who was a pilot in the US Airforce. He was stationed overseas in Japan during 1956 and 1957.
All of the chess pieces (32) are with the game and in beautiful condition. The flags have since broken off the pieces they were originally a part of, and 3 of the 4 flags are still with the game.
I do believe from the research that I was able to find that the board is made of natural teak wood. The elastic straps holding the pieces have since lost their elasticity. The board does have a small section where a piece of the wood is missing along the exterior perimeter of the board and there are also some burn marks. I’m not sure if this is something that can be refinished or not. I’m not familiar with this type of wood.
But as a whole, this is a wonderful chess game that I’m sure would be a treasured piece to add to anyone’s collection. I am asking for $1,500. I can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org.
