Antique Ivory Chess Set Made in China From East African Ivory

by John Maliniak
(Valley Forge, Pa. USA)

My father took a trip to China in 1983 with the People to People exchange program.

While over there he took lots of photographs and brought back lots of interesting things.

One of the smaller things he brought back was an Ivory chess set.

The kings measure three inches tall and all the pieces fit into the lined board/box. Each of the thirty-two are hand carved with the kings, queens, and bishops having ink accents.

The board which folds in half is sixteen inches by sixteen inches. When folded it is sixteen by eight and three and a half inches tall.

It came with a certificate and bill of sale from a Hong Kong Outfit.

I would be interested in selling and can be reached at: jdmaliniak@gmail.com
