Botvinnik versus Smyslov 9.5 : 12.5. Smyslov won the match and gained the world title and became the seventh world champion in the history of chess.

The Russian grandmaster Vasily Smyslov was world chess champion for one year only. He lost the title one year later because Botvinnik had the right for a rematch.
